GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government has issued the Certificate of Occupancy (OC) for 7,571 units of low- and low-medium-cost houses in the state up to September this year.
State Housing and Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said the OCs were issued by both the Penang and Seberang Perai municipal councils.
"The number of OCs approved this year was more than the 3,768 issued last year," he said when replying to Datuk Dr Hilmi Yahaya (BN-Teluk Bahang) at the State Assembly sitting here on Wednesday, Nov 10.
Wong also said that the state government had allocated more than RM9 million to refurbish and upgrade the state-owned flats in 2010.
"The state government also provides an allocation of RM10 million each year over five years for repairing and upgrading the flats owned by the state government, and priority is given to old projects in need of repair," he said.
Wong also stressed that the state government had also made plans to build 384 units of low-cost and low-medium-cost houses in Bandar Jelutong.
"The state government also plans to reopen the tender to build 800 low-cost houses in Ampang Jajar," he added. — Bernama
