In separate live feeds on social media, opposition MPs including Nurul Izzah Anwar, Hannah Yeoh and Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin said the roads to Parliament were closed despite the postponement of today's sitting.

In a statement, Dr Noor Hisham, who has called for an immediate suspension of all meetings there, said the Parliament has now been deemed a high-risk gathering for the spread of Covid-19, even though only 11 out of 1,183 people who attended the recent sitting have been found positive for the coronavirus.

The pace of daily dose administered jumped to an average of 397,711 vaccine doses a day as of Saturday (July 31). 

Including today’s cases, the cumulative number of confirmed infections in the country totalled 1.13 million, according to the Ministry of Health.

The number of vaccine doses administered was higher than the 512,097 doses of vaccines administered on July 30, and marked the sixth consecutive day the country administered over 500,000 doses.

In a statement, it pointed out that based on the health director-general's report, the positivity rate from the screening conducted among Parliament staff and MPs was only 0.9%, while the threshold value to indicate sufficient testing is 5%, according to the World Health Organization. "This means that there is no significant number of positive Covid-19 cases in Parliament throughout the past week," said the Pakatan Harapan's presidential council.

In a letter to members of Parliament, Dewan Rakyat secretary Nizam Mydin Bacha Mydin said the Speaker's office was informed of the postponement by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, in line with Standing Order 11(3) of the lower house

This is also the fourth time the daily’ Covid-19 infections cases surpassed 17,000-level for the past one week — with 17,045 on July 25 (Sunday), 17,405 on July 28 and 17,170 on July 29 (Thursday)

However, few deals have been done owing to “wide mismatch between buyer and seller expectations”.

Of the 512,097 doses of vaccines given out yesterday, 315,737 were to individuals who received their first dose, while the remainder were to 196,360 individuals who got their second jab.
