Malaysia's Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed that three Singaporeans were found safe in the landslide incident near the Father's Organic Farm campsite, Gohtong Jaya, Batang Kali, early Friday (Dec 16) morning.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said foreign leaders also expressed sympathy over the tragedy, including Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

“As the Federal Disaster Management Committee chairman, I, along with all agency heads here will monitor the situation from time to time and will update the media and the public on developments.”

The bodies of a mother and child, believed to be buried alive in the landslide at a campsite in Gohtong Jaya on Friday (Dec 16) morning, were found hugging each other.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecast that heavy rain will start tomorrow, especially on the East Coast.

Nga Kor Ming, who started duty helming the Local Government Development Ministry (KPKT) less than two weeks ago, is expected to hit the ground running in tackling the housing woes and affordability issues faced by the rakyat.

Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming, in confirming this, said the campsite was run without an operating licence from the Hulu Selangor District Council.

“We have warned many times about giving permission for earthworks and other forms of activity to take place on highlands and hillsides as these places are environmentally sensitive areas.”

A total of 363 rescuers from 15 agencies are still trying to locate the missing victims with the help of six tracking dogs.
