KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 16): Sarawak property developer and businessman Tan Sri Ting Pek Khiing (pictured) passed away earlier today, reported the Borneo Post. He was 79 years old.

A source told the East Malaysian daily that Ting died at his residence at Jalan Song, Kuching, at about 3.30pm “surrounded by his family”.

Ting hit the headlines when his company Ekran Bhd was awarded the deal to build the mega Bakun Dam back in 1994.

He also upgraded Kuching International Airport in 2003 and had a role in a number of prominent projects in Sarawak and Sabah.

Ting was also in the news as a result of financial and legal problems.
